Great journeys through Victoria: Top 5 things to do along the Great Ocean Road

There’s more to the Great Ocean Road than simply driving along it! Check out our top five things to do on this road trip of a lifetime…

*1. Go surfing at Bells Beach

Home to the Rip Curl Pro Surfing Competition, head to Bells Beach if you want to hit some serious waves or give it a go with a two hour surf lesson.

*2. Try sea kayaking at Point Danger Marine Park

Don’t worry, kayaking over this lovely reef close to Torquay, one of our favourite seaide towns, isn’t as tough as its name sounds. Head out in your two-man kayak and catch waves, paddle about or watch out for the rare fairy tern bird which nests in the region.

*3. Play golf with kangaroos

You’re more likely to score a kanga than a birdie at Anglesea golf course, which is more than enough reason for a visit, even if you prefer not to play!

4. Fly over the 12 Apostles

Possibly one of the most iconic sites along the whole of the Great Ocean Road, if not Australia. If you can afford it, splash out on a helicopter ride to see the 12 Apostles at their best. Otherwise, find a comfy spot and enjoy the view with a delicious picnic.

5. Stretch your legs on the Great Ocean Walk

As we said, there’s more to the Great Ocean Road than driving. Get out those walking boots and check out the Great Ocean Walk.

So hard to fit just 5 things in. A surfing lesson is a great idea. Need more than 2 hours to surf at Bells though! Koalas at Cape Otway must be at number 6.
