Culture & Events, Melbourne, Sport

As London takes centre stage to host the 2012 Olympics, the pressure to win Gold has been riding fairly high on one man – Sir Chris Hoy. UK journalist, Nick McAvaney, was lucky enough to interview Chris at the Track World Cycling Championships and discovered he’s a huge fan of Melbourne. Here’s why Chris thinks Melbourne deserves a Gold medal…

1- What is it about Melbourne that you like so much?
The atmosphere, diversity, people and culture. It’s an exciting place and so vibrant. I love it, it’s got character, plenty to do, a great mix of people and a very outdoor lifestyle like the rest of the country. The Melbourne cafes are really good on the whole and as a coffee obsessive that’s important to me!
2- What is your fondest memory of Melbourne (competition or otherwise)?

My first trip to Melbourne was in 1998. It was the first extended period of time in Australia with the GB team. We stayed in St Kilda and I loved it.

4- What is it you look forward to doing/experiencing, each time you come back to Melbourne?
