As London fashion week takes over the capital, Australia House was looking its stylish best last night as it opened its doors to welcome fashion lovers, writers and bloggers to launch the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival in March.

Close to Somerset House on the Strand, tourists were posing for pictures by Australia House, where a photo gallery of images of the new season’s collections are being exhibited in the windows.

Inside guests were treated to a display of the new season’s collections before they hit the catwalk  with designs by Melbourne talent Christopher Esber, Above, Dress Up, Lime Drop and Song for the Mute.

In the grand drawing room, guests nibbled on smoked salmon and ginger blinis, rare beef crudités, edamame polenta cakes and coconutty leamingtons on sticks all washed down with fabulous wines from the Yarra Valley and refreshing wild berry juice.

We wanted to find out what made the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival so different.

[It’s] a fashion, beauty and business event that’s for everyone to enjoy,” summed up Graeme Lewsey, the CEO at L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. “Nowhere else is a fashion show so open to the public, tourists and local businesses. We have a diverse cultural programme running throughout the festival in MelbourneIt’s totally unique”.
